A DISTRICT charity is urging people to hold fundraising coffee mornings.

Age UK Bradford District hopes individuals, groups and businesses will get involved in the initiative, which runs throughout next month.

The charity says rising numbers of people are accessing its services – particularly for advice and casework, groups and activities.

"An increase in funding for these areas will lead to more older people finding the support they need to live a financially-secure life as well as improving their mental health and wellbeing," says an Age UK Bradford District spokesperson.

"With a population of over 85,000 aged 65-plus in Bradford district, and the range of challenges faced, there are many older people in real need of help."

Lynette Elphee, a fundraising assistant with the charity, says: "This is the first time we've planned coffee mornings across the district and we're looking forward to getting involved with people generous enough to support us.

"It's all about enjoying a cuppa and some tasty treats with friends and colleagues. Individuals and businesses can get involved in a variety of ways, such as by hosting a coffee morning in homes, business premises, churches or village halls."
