Down memory land

More than 50 people braved inclement weather on Sunday to honour six Canadian airmen killed during WW2. The pilot's nephew and a second cousin of one of the crew joined the group assembled at the memorial stone on Tewitt Lane, Oakworth, where the crew's plane crashed in 1944.

Mrs Noeline Sharp said prayers and a bible reading was read by Mrs Janet Armstrong (right). Wreaths and flowers were laid and a two minutes' silence observed. A wreath was laid by Max Friebel (above), the pilot's nephew who had travelled from America for the occasion. Flowers and a photo of his second cousin, Jack Henfrey, were laid by Phil Handley (far right) who travelled from Nottinghamshire.

Oakworth Village Society, who originally were involved in the siting of the Memorial Stone, some years ago, and who are also involved in the planning of the annual ceremony are pleased to see so much concern and interest in the event.
