A FIREWORK display company is soaring to new heights.

Optimum Fireworks, based at Riddlesden and Silsden, has been invited to compete in a prestigious event.

It will do battle against two other teams in the Firework Champions contest, at Broughton Hall on September 20.

Each competitor will stage a 10-minute display, choreographed to music.

And an audience vote will decide the winner.

The event will also include a finale display by the organiser, MLE Pyrotechnics.

Rebecca Cooper, 26, of Riddlesden, who runs Optimum Fireworks with her 34-year-old partner Philip, said: "Participation in the event is by invitation and we were honoured to be asked.

"It is our first competitive display and we are the first Yorkshire company to compete in the event, and what makes it even more special is the fact it's taking place locally at Broughton Hall. We would love to take home the title at our first attempt."

Optimum Fireworks was launched in 2009 and has grown rapidly.

It stages displays at a wide range of events and venues, from weddings to TV programmes – it provided multiple firework shows during the UK filming of the US TV series, My Big Redneck Vacation.

"Philip had spent many years working for other display companies before we decided to set up on our own," said Rebecca.

"It's grown a lot faster than we expected it to. We have a team of about eight, but that increases in November when of course demand rises."
