A TEAM of cyclists from Redrow Homes called at Steeton as part of a mammoth 260-mile charity ride.

They visited eight of the company's developments across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, including the Manor Fields scheme, in Thornhill Road.

The initiative raised nearly £13,000 for the Martin House children's hospice, at Boston Spa.

"It went very well – despite challenging weather," said a Redrow Homes spokesman.

"In total, over three days, they climbed more than 3,130 metres."

The Big Bike Ride formed part of the company's 40th anniversary celebrations, which had already seen £10,000 raised for the hospice by Yorkshire divisional staff.

Commercial director John Handley, who was among the cyclists, said: "We trained hard and really looked forward to getting in the saddle for such a great cause.

"Redrow values its relationship with local communities and it’s an absolute pleasure to be able to team up with Martin House and help raise much-needed funds.”
