A KEIGHLEY restaurant which was only set up in late 2012 has won the Keighley News Restaurant of the Year competition for the second year running.

Khalid's Desi, in Low Mill Lane, beat five other outlets in Keighley and Haworth to capture the coveted title.

Thousands of readers voted for their favourite through coupons in the newspaper, by phone or text.

Reacting to Khalid's Desi's second win, manager Nabeel Khalid said: "I feel really pleased. We've had a lot of support from customers and we always invite feedback from them.

"This building was a disused nightclub when we took it over and it was wrecked inside. We've put a lot of work into it.

"Now it's a really good location. Because of the steam railway next door we get a lot of customers who are tourists from all over."

He and his father, Khalid Shaban, paid tribute to their business's staff.

Mr Shaban added that Khalid's Desi made great efforts to serve traditional, authentic Kashmiri cuisine.

He said: "Our customers are like a family to us, and that is what really makes the business.

"People are also starting to make use of our banqueting suite now for things like weddings, parties and work dos."

Keighley News editor, Richard Parker, said: “Congratulations to a worthy winner in what was an incredible competition. Can anyone stop Khalid’s making it a hat-trick next year?”

Other contenders in this year's contest were Azeems, Slow Food Kitchen and Nazar Bistro in Keighley, and Chaplins Bistro and Bronte Hotel in Haworth.
