KEIGHLEY businesses will promote career and job opportunities to young people at an event in the town next week.

More than a dozen firms are expected to attend Tuesday's venture, at Leeds City College Keighley Campus.

Local traders will be joined by national retail giants such as Boots and Marks & Spencer.

The initiative is part of the town's involvement in the Healthy High Streets campaign, which aims to create new jobs and slash the number of empty shops.

Keighley town centre manager, Philip Smith, said: "The college event will provide employment information and advice to students whilst also allowing businesses to meet senior college management and promote all that Keighley has to offer.

"The Healthy High Streets steering group aims to work together to stimulate the local economy and to create jobs that are essential to vibrant communities.

"A priority is to work alongside young people and education to address the skills shortage."
