A CULLINGWORTH businessman attended the launch of the Tour de Yorkshire international cycle race.

Paul Corcoran, who runs Pennine Cycles with his wife Sandra, said the event would provide another massive boost to the county.

"It is another high-profile cycle race which will showcase Yorkshire to the world and bring the feelgood factor just like the Tour de France did in July," he said.

Full details of the route won't be announced until January 21, but it doesn't follow in the cycle tracks of the Grand Depart through Silsden, Keighley and the Worth Valley.

Key locations which will host a start or finish are Bridlington, Leeds, Scarborough, Selby, Wakefield and York.

The event – to be held from May 1-3, and repeated annually – will be run by Welcome to Yorkshire and Amaury Sport Organisation, which operates the Tour de France.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "This is another huge milestone for Yorkshire as we position the county as the cycling heartland of Europe.

"I am confident it will become a huge annual event and something that will raise Yorkshire's profile year on year."
