A COUPLE who moved to Haworth have re-started a business which hires out sets of vintage crockery for people wanting to add a touch of whimsical class to their functions.

Howard and Katie Shelmerdine, of Ivy Bank Lane, originally began the business in their former home town of Huddersfield.

The enterprise was then called Eccentric and English, but today it is called Brontë Vintage Crockery Hire.

Mr Shelmerdine explained: "We spent a lot of time in 2010 travelling around the country collecting all these original items of crockery. When we got married we had a vintage-style wedding at Oakwell Hall, Birstall, and the crockery was perfect for it.

"Instead of just keeping it all packed up in boxes for years we decided we wanted to continue to make use of the crockery."

The couple ran the business under its previous name in Huddersfield for two years, but re-launched it in Haworth less than a month ago. They have already had their first booking.

Mr Shelmderdine added: "It's something we used to really enjoy doing and it's better than having the crockery hidden away in boxes all the time.

"We've always wanted to live in a village location, and we've always loved Haworth. The community here is fantastic."
