FOCUS groups are meeting to hear what improvements Keighley town-centre businesses want to see.

A series of meetings takes place over the next few days for different categories of trader and commercial firm.

The move is part of plans to create a so-called Business Improvement District (BID), which could see over £1 million pumped into town centre projects.

Meetings – which all take place at the Keighley Town Centre Association offices – are tomorrow (Mar 27) for independents and multiples, on Monday for professional services and Wednesday for the night-time economy.

There is also a general focus group meeting on Monday.

The BID would cover an area stretching from Morrisons to Emily Street and from Highfield to the Leeds City College Keighley Campus.

Traders would pay a 1.5 per cent levy on their business rates to fund a raft of improvements aimed at attracting more visitors and investment.

They would vote on a package of measures which could include increased marketing, new events throughout the year and better information points for visitors and shoppers.
