STAFF from a business in Keighley took part in their firm's national charity initiative to raise cash for properties in need of repair and maintenance.

Sam Crossley, James Hicks and Richard McKeown, who are employed at Screwfix, in Worth Way, participated in the Tour de Screwfix, a 5,500-mile national cycle relay.

Proceeds from this event go to the Screwfix Foundation, a charity which supports projects to fix, maintain and improve UK properties and facilities for people in need.

The Keighley-based staff are among 800 workers from their business's UK stores riding a leg of the relay over an eight-week period. The relay began on April 13, with the aim of raising a combined total of £100,000.

Mr Crossley, Mr Hicks and Mr McKeown covered the Keighley to Rochdale leg of the challenge, a distance of 25.1 miles.

Mr Crossley said: “We really enjoyed taking part, it was a tough ride but for a fantastic cause. It’s great that so many employees are involved."

The business is now calling for charities in and around Keighley to apply for a share of the funds raised.

Screwfix Foundation works with two national charity partners, Barnardo’s children’s charity and Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as lending a helping hand to smaller, local registered charities.
