A GROWING Steeton company has won two accolades in the prestigious Yorkshire International Trade Awards.

Acorn Stairlifts took the international company of the year award, for firms with £50m-plus turnover, and the excellence in international trade title.

Judges praised the Station Road company's fast track service, which means a bespoke curved stair rail can be installed within two days of an order being received.

They also paid tribute to Acorn's heavy investment in establishing its own subsidiaries, rather than relying solely on third-party distributors, and its growth strategy.

Awards were presented in a glittering ceremony at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.

Acorn company secretary Dave Belmont said: "To win two export awards in one evening is tremendous.

"Our stairlifts are sent all over the world direct from our UK-based factories.

"In the last twelve months, we have increased the size of our multi-lingual export department at Steeton by half in order to meet increasing demand for our stairlifts."
