A KEIGHLEY chippy has been named among the UK's top fledgling fish shops for the second year running.

Old Time Fisheries has been shortlisted for the best-newcomer accolade in the coveted Seafish National Fish & Chip Awards.

The Devonshire Street business and fellow finalists will now be subject to mystery judging to assess product quality and customer service levels.

Three winners will then go forward to the awards ceremony, to be held in London in January.

Last year Old Time Fisheries – owned by Mark and Jane Faichney – made the top three in the category, which rewards chippies trading for two years or less.

Andrew Marriott, for award sponsor Frymax, said: "The most enjoyable aspect of sponsoring the best-newcomer category is being able to see new shops such as Old Time Fisheries, which are driven with a passion to produce great tasting fish and chips for their customers."

Mr Faichney said: "We're delighted to be shortlisted for a second successive year. It's a great honour."

In August, the shop became the first chippy to receive a gold award from the Good Food Bradford Project.

The scheme encourages businesses to offer healthier options and provides free training and support.
