A SILSDEN firm is expanding and creating new jobs.

Advanced Component Technology (ACT) has extended its Kawasaki hydraulics distribution centre.

The Ryefield Way company has invested £250,000 in the development and recruited five new workers.

The expansion to the distribution centre – built two years ago – includes an innovative, space-saving shelving system and bespoke forklift truck which can navigate the tight spaces between shelves.

Keighley MP Kris Hopkins officially unveiled the new facility.

"I'm incredibly proud to see such a growing international business here in Silsden and am delighted to see it moving forward in leaps and bounds," he said.

"The creation of five full-time jobs is a very positive development for the community and provides another boost to the wider economy, which continues to thrive."

Mr Hopkins was joined at the unveiling by Kawasaki European sales director Scott Ikuma, customers, suppliers and representatives of partner organisations.

The centre is now home to £500,000 of Kawasaki products, for distribution to the hydraulic system and machinery manufacturer.

ACT director Stephen Lund said the expansion would enable the firm to target new – and develop current – markets, including power generation and renewable energy.

He added that it showed the company's commitment to Kawasaki.

"Our relationship with Kawasaki has gone from strength to strength and is an integral part of our business," he said.

"We have invested in the new site to house more Kawasaki products to support the UK.

"We are already seeing new business opportunities as a result of the investment."

Mr Ikuma said: "Kawasaki Precision Machinery was very pleased to appoint ACT as its hub distributor for the UK in 2013.

"The new site shows that we are continuing to grow together and expand into new markets."

ACT has over 20 years' experience in hydraulic engineering, supplying a full range of Staffa motors as well as Kawasaki hydraulic pumps.

It also offers a full range of Kawasaki spares as well as a complete overhaul and repair service.
