A CULLINGWORTH businesswoman met Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne during a prestigious Treasury event in London.

Sandra Corcoran, a director of Pennine Cycles, was invited to the gathering as part of celebrations marking Small Business Saturday.

She was among just 100 business representatives from across the United Kingdom at the special Christmas fair.

Mrs Corcoran said: “We were delighted to be included in the Small Business 100 earlier this year and to be invited to showcase our business in London was a huge honour.

“It is important to raise awareness of small, independent businesses and Small Business Saturday is a great initiative.”

The Small Business Saturday campaign encourages people to spend money with small independent retailers, in the run-up to Christmas and throughout the year.

“It is a great opportunity to champion some of the brilliant entrepreneurs and firms we have in this country and make sure everyone is aware of the powerful role they play,” said Mr Osborne.

A Small Business Saturday competition in Keighley attracted 51 entries.

Winners were Lilian Hughes of Diamond Soles, Tracy Lyons of Airedale Opticians, Carl Hardwick of Church Street and Donna Westfall, of Kaos.
