WORKERS at a Crossflatts business are staging a charity football match.

UK Asset Resolution (UKAR) is taking part in the initiative tomorrow (Jan 29).

Staff from the Croft Road firm, which administers the former Bradford & Bingley mortgage book, are lining up against a team from ACS Business Supplies.

Proceeds will be split between the Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit (PSBRU) at the University of Bradford and the Yorkshire Children’s Trust charity.

"Our team is donating to the research unit," said Elliott Horan, of UKAR, who is organising the event with Zach Teasdale from Bingley-based ACS.

"The unit was established in the aftermath of the Bradford City fire and has become a lasting memorial to all those who suffered there.

"The continued existence of the PSBRU charity depends heavily on donations from the public.

"We are hoping to make a huge financial contribution to the PSBRU for the commemoration of the disaster, in which 56 supporters died, two of whom supported Lincoln City and 258 other supporters suffered injuries, of whom many sustained serious burns."

The 11-a-side match will take place on an all-weather pitch at Titus Salt School, Higher Coach Road, Baildon, from 6.30pm.

"There will be 90 minutes of action guaranteed," said Mr Horan.

The burns unit appeal has so far raised £275,104, just under £25,000 short of its £300,000 target, which fundraisers hope to reach by May.

Alan Carling, chairman of the remembrance panel of the BCFC Supporters Board, said: "It's great that these two teams have thought of supporting the burns unit as part of their charity event.

"This is much appreciated – why not get down to Titus Salt School to support the teams, and help add to the total for the commemorative appeal?

"The magnificent response from people in Bradford district and around the country means that the appeal is within touching distance of its target, which we hope to reach before the appeal ends formally."

Admission to the match is £2.50 for adults and £1 for children.

Mr Horan added: "We have a presentation after the game at Suburban bar in Bingley.

"They've kindly loaned us the function suite for free."
