KEIGHLEY-district companies rallied round to support a junior rugby team on a tour of Ireland.

The Keighley RUFC under-15s headed across the Irish Sea at the weekend (Apr 8-10) for a series of matches.

They also tried their hand at hurling and visited the Aviva Stadium, on the old Lansdowne Road site in Dublin.

The trip formed the fourth leg of a six-nations tour.

Major sponsors of the initiative were Keighley Ford and Kia, Hydraserve UK, Utley Fisheries and Beny Sports.

Graham Field, the U15s manager and club membership secretary, said: "The support provided by our local community deserves special mention, as this reflects the high regard in which rugby union is held as a sport.

"Special thanks go not only to our fully supportive squad parents, who continue to work hard organising events to raise the considerable funds necessary to embark on the tour, but to those local companies which are the major sponsors."

Jak Bardsley, of Keighley Ford and Kia, said the firm was delighted to be giving its backing.

"We realise it’s often difficult for grassroots teams to raise funds to travel on tours such as these and we were happy to be in a position to help the boys," he added.
