A WILSDEN funeral director is backing a national campaign encouraging people to plan for their death and discuss their wishes with loved ones.

Behind the initiative is the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF), which says people often avoid the subject until it is too late.

The organisation has produced a free booklet containing advice and giving people the chance to record their end-of-life wishes.

Helen Phillips, of Albert Pratt Funeral Directors at Wilsden, said: "Most of us put off thinking about end-of-life planning until the last moment.

"However, although it's a difficult and often taboo subject to discuss, it is very important that our loved ones are aware of our wishes.

"I often support families which are unsure what their loved ones would have wanted and this puts even more stress on them during an already emotional time."

She added: "There are so many things to consider when planning for the end of your life, from making a will and funeral arrangements through to your digital legacy and views on organ donation.

"This new booklet aims to make that process a lot easier."

Terry Tennens, of SAIF, said: "I am delighted that local members are going above and beyond by supporting our campaign to encourage people to start thinking about end-of-life planning.

"I hope this booklet will be of help and a source of huge comfort to families."
