A SALES assistant at Oakworth Co-op has named one of the top shopworkers in the country.

Katie Shaw was voted Store Assistant of the Year in the Co-operative sector in the annual awards scheme, run by leading trade magazine Convenience Store.

Katie, 25, who works at the mini-market in Victoria Street, won the accolade in the magazine’s Sales Assistant of the Year awards.

She impressed judges with her ability to multi-task and grow sales of the store’s bakery by over a third.

They also said she demonstrated a caring attitude towards her job, colleagues and customers.

Katie was one of just five category winners at the national awards ceremony at the Dorchester in London earlier this month.

Richard Walker, the Co-op’s area manager, said everyone at the Co-op in Oakworth was thrilled for Katie.

He said: She is an integral part of the team and takes a huge amount of pride in serving people in the Oakworth community. We’re very proud that her achievements have been recognised at a national level.”

Convenience Store editor David Rees said: “Katie has proven herself to be not just an expert baker, but a hugely friendly and efficient customer service assistant as well.

“She gives up so much of her time for local community work as well, and she fully deserves to claim her place alongside the very best sales assistants in the country.”
