A TOP Keighley College apprentice is celebrating success in a world skills challenge.
Carl Shore – a fabrication and welding apprentice – was victorious in the semi-final of Skillweld, held in Derby.
He was up against competitors from across Yorkshire and the North Midlands. They had to complete four pieces in as many hours.
Carl, 24, Keighley College’s Apprentice of the Year, has worked at Dyson Doors & Fabrications Ltd in Skipton since 2015.
The company’s managing director, Ken Dyson, said: “We are pleased to see Carl’s success in the competition and look forward to him continuing to be a fully skilled and dedicated member of our team.”
Ashley Fieldsend, assessor in engineering at the college, said he was “incredibly proud” of Carl.
“He is a humble young man who takes everything in his stride and his knowledge and competency are first class,” he added.
“Taking part in Skillweld is an opportunity for Carl to show off his talents and develop his skills further to prepare for the industry as a multi-skilled welder.”
