A CULLINGWORTH couple are celebrating after reaching the finals of a coveted Yorkshire awards scheme.

Paul and Sandra Corcoran, who run Pennine Cycles, were both finalists in the Yorkshire Choice Awards.

They were nominated in the businessman and businesswoman categories.

"We're delighted," said Sandra.

"I was shocked when it was announced – from a long list of Yorkshire businesswomen – that I was a finalist, and then when we learned Paul was through to the finals too it was like us riding tandem together!

"In both categories we were toppled by premier league opposition – Huddersfield Town directors!"

The awards ceremony – which raised money for St Gemma's Hospice, Leeds – was held in the Centenary Pavilion at Leeds United's Elland Road stadium.

Over 435,000 votes were cast online as the public chose its winners.

A spokesman said: "Congratulations go to all the winners, finalists and nominees who took part. They are all truly inspirational and deserve recognition for their achievements."

Mr and Mrs Corcoran bought Pennine Cycles in 2000 and have run the independent cycle business ever since.

It has become hugely popular with cyclists throughout the Bradford district and from further afield.
