PLUMBING students from Keighley College have visited a construction site to get first-hand experience.

The ten students, who are working towards a Level 3 diploma, spent time at David Wilson Homes' Hewenden Ridge development in Cullingworth.

They met the construction team, were given a talk by site manager Joshua Whitehead and received a guided tour.

Mr Whitehead said: "We were delighted to have the students join us for a 'behind-the scenes' experience of a working construction site, to help them get a feel for the practical elements of their course.

"It's vital to us to support the communities in which we build, and education is a big part of that.

"We want to show young people of all ages and backgrounds that housebuilding is a rewarding career, and also tackle the skills shortage the construction industry faces by inspiring the next generation of housebuilders."

Chirelle Perrett, transition and employability officer at Keighley College, said the visit had been hugely beneficial for the students.

She added: "Our students have a keen interest in learning all they can about the plumbing industry.

"Visiting Hewenden Ridge and seeing systems being created and put in place was a great experience for them and we're grateful to the site team, which was extremely helpful in showing the students around and answering their questions."
