Skeleton for Fiery Fred statue

A Cross Hills company is bowled over with its latest project.

Paul Waite Associates is supporting a scheme to erect a statue of cricketing legend Fred Trueman.

The 12-strong team of civil and structural engineers is devising a skeleton for the statue - being produced by sculptor Graham Ibbeson - to ensure its stability.

Managing director Paul Waite said: "Graham's statue is a stunningly crafted piece, which presents significant engineering challenges to maintain its distinctive pose. The internal support structure has been devised using our state-of-the-art technology normally reserved for complex building projects.

"Supporting such a worthwhile initiative and delivering a lasting legacy to a local hero is a real pleasure for the team."

The statue is planned for Skipton. The initiative - part of a Northern Rail art project - is supported by Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Craven Council.
