This view of an entrance to Victoria Park a century or so ago suggests the sedate nature of its users – a suited gentleman in a bowler hat, a woman with a well-dressed child and a girl with two younger children and a perambulator.
Notice the formidable list of regulations displayed inside the gate.
In 1905, the Parks Committee had instructed park rangers “to prohibit the erection of any tripod or other stand” for photography on Sundays – which could explain why this photographer has stayed outside!
The photograph has been supplied by Kevin Seaton, of Shann Lane, Keighley.
