Both the Mechanics’ Institute clock-tower and the Parish Church can be seen in the distance.
The tramlines were to disappear in 1924.
When Princess Mary’s royal car came this way two years later, she is said to have admired this view into the town. A huge streamer at Utley had proclaimed ‘Welcome!’.
