Essentially little seems to have changed in this view of Church Green, although the presence of trackless wires indicates that it cannot have been taken later than 1932.
The pointed turrets at the ends of Hattersley Crescent have since been removed.
Several well-known businesses are shown. On the left, Thomas Hobson has become ‘Ye Old Wool Shop’. On the right are ironmongers Hebden and Holding, founded here in 1898, one of whose between-the-wars lines was the hiring out of marmalade-making machines to larger households each autumn.
On the right-hand corner, New Road Side Repairs are offering reductions on boot repairs. When the Keighley Rugby League Club won through to Wembley in 1937, this firm ran a poetical advert: ‘If to Wembley you would like to go, And can’t afford the fares, Set off a week before, or so, On ‘New Road Side’ Repairs.’
