It is safe to assume many of the boys who listened to those Empire Day addresses were willy-nilly destined to uphold their ideals of service and duty all the way to the ultimate sacrifice in the Great War.

Here is the Order of Service for the dedication and unveiling, in the very square where they had mustered with their flags, of the Keighley War Memorial on a grey December day in 1924.

An estimated 25,000 – approximately five-eighths of the Borough population at the time – turned out to watch.

The Order of Service has been supplied by Kevin Seaton, of Shann Lane in Keighley.
