THIS frankly overcrowded boat (only four lifebelts are visible) is on Windermere in July of 1919. It has embarked 180 employees of Messrs Driver Brothers of North Street Mills, Silsden, who were combining that month's peace celebrations with the firm's coming of age by treating everybody to a day out.
Six charabancs took the party to Lake Side, where they tucked into "a substantial dinner" at the Pier Pavilion before sailing up the lake to Ambleside. Calls were made at Kirby Lonsdale and Settle on the way home.
It was a day to remember. They had left Silsden at 7.30 in the morning and didn't get back till midnight. As the local press reported, they had "enjoyed themselves immensely".
