THIS was high summer in Airedale in 1951, still a bygone age. The little boy was Michael Shearing, who lived in Silver Grove at Utley and whose Auntie Dorothy took the snap over a wall-top.
The horse was called Major, and was being led by Oscar Nixon, the hired man at the Wrathalls' farm at Rose Cottage. The background remains unchanged, apart from the addition of the Aire Valley trunk road.
