SOME 40 years ago when given this photograph, I was told that it showed “John Thomas” Bradley, a local busker with a gramophone on wheels. When subsequently published, however, old-timers with long memories were adamant that this was not John Thomas.
Neither is it his rival, “Freddie Gramophone” Butterfield, another ‘entertainer’ (if that is the correct word) who used to regale Keighley theatre and cinema queues with a few scratched records.
John Thomas and Freddie Gramophone were not as comparatively debonair as this gentleman, and both trundled their gramophones on old prams.
So, from an age when such characters abounded, who is this? Again, we shall probably never know.
