WITH a foreground symbolising transport a century ago – ie tramlines and horse droppings – these fine new late-Victorian buildings, embellished with decorative stone carving, typify the reconstructed North Street. To the right of the shops of M and E Stell and Mrs Fred Pearson stands the Bradford District Bank Limited, erected in 1892.
Its architects were W and J B Bailey of Keighley, who were responsible for many local buildings of the period, being equally competent with mills, churches, shops and houses. Their most notable work include All Saints' Church, the Temperance Institute and the former Victoria Hospital.
