HERE are some of the 130 youngsters of Laycock, Braithwaite, Holme House, Goose Eye, Newsholme and Black Hill who attended a children’s treat in Laycock Institute on New Year’s Day, 1930.
Although only the second of its kind, this was billed as “a highly appreciated annual affair”, with such seasonal features as a Christmas tree and Father Christmas, games and a supper.
The contraption seen on top of the stand was described as “a home cinema” loaned by AN Kershaw and projected by John Nicholson – a success judging by the rapt faces.
The photograph was supplied by Mr M Craven, of East Morton, whose parents are probably in the group. It was taken by George Crowther, who was to retire at the end of 1956 after 50 years with the Bradford and District Newspaper Company, the last six as editor of the Keighley News.
His interest in photography had proved especially useful throughout his journalistic career.
