THIS is Haggate Nook, the buildings seen on the bend in the road behind the Silent Inn, featured elsewhere on this page. Here, between the wars, Fred Jackson had a grocer’s shop on the left, while the large Teas painted on the right indicates one of a number of local premises catering for visitors to Bronteland.
This photograph has also been supplied by Mrs Rosamund Mitchell, whose husband’s grandfather, William Greenwood, had run the grocer’s earlier in the century.
“He sold just about anything you can mention – coal, groceries and corn to the local farmers,” Mrs Mitchell recalls. “When he delivered the corn, he picked up their spare eggs and he had an egg round in Keighley.”
