VETERAN cars first appeared in the Keighley Gala processions in 1966. All came from the collection of the late Peter Black, who drove one himself and invited his employees to take part.
"The period costumes worn by the drivers and female companions added an authentic touch," observed the local press.
This photograph has been supplied by Mrs Maureen Jackson, of Fell Lane, Keighley, whose sons Michael, Paul and Christopher are sitting in the back.
She had made her own costume and her boys' sailor suits from "about ten bobs' worth of stuff from the market" and would have been in line for a first prize if driver Eddie Bates had tried to look Edwardian.
