THE HOLY Family Secondary School was officially opened 50 years ago, in May, 1965, although its first pupils had moved in during September of 1964. Mr Gilligan recalls how those original students “can tell stories of spending part of the summer term carrying equipment up the hill to the new school”.
The Roman Catholic Bishop of Leeds, the Right Rev Monsignor G P Dwyer, blessed and officially opened the school. Here he is talking to head prefects Linda Foley and Keith Farrington.
'Faith and Endeavour', originally the motto of St Anne’s School, was transferred to the Holy Family School on its taking over the secondary educational role.
