HERE are the staff of Ramsden's fish and chip restaurant, on the corner of High Street and Temple Street, about to set off on a day trip to Morecambe in July, 1935 – necessarily on a Sunday, when they were closed.
Their coach, supplied by Messrs Forders of Bingley, was fitted with wireless, though judging by the piano-accordion player they could provide their own entertainment en route.
The photograph was supplied years ago by Robert Crooke, of Riddlesden, one of the boys at the front.
His father, Frank B Crooke, was manager at Ramsden's for about 20 years. He had previously been head fryer at the famous Harry Ramsden's, but contrary to rumour there was no connection between the Keighley and Guiseley firms.
Mr Crooke recalled the young man with the piano-accordion as Alvi Bradley.
He said Ramsden's had restaurants both upstairs and down, which proved extremely popular with troops billeted in the town during the Second World War.
