THESE Riddlesden Scouts and Wolf Cubs were officially opening their new headquarters hut in Canal Road in 1932, the culmination of three years' hard work and the raising of £80.

Standing on the right is the official opener, Major AB Clarkson, DSO, a former Scoutmaster who had started the Riddlesden troop in 1909.

This ceremony was followed by Scouting displays, the investiture of three new Cubs, and tea.

The hut was later moved into the grounds of East Riddlesden Hall.

Boy Scout activities of the time included camping, midnight hikes and woodcraft, plus such specialities as signalling, bridge building and axemanship, but with the outbreak of the Second World War these were to be expanded to help the war effort by gardening, filling sandbags and collecting waste paper.
