THESE children from Oakworth Council School were singing parodies of well-known songs to encourage War Savings. They formed part of an entertainment in Holden Park, which also included a "miniature military display", girl pipers and children as sandwich men carrying "slogan appeals".

This was the school's contribution to Wings for Victory Week during May 1943, seven concentrated fundraising days of dances and whist drives, the band of the West Yorkshire Regiment in Victoria Park, an Air Training Corps tattoo in the football field, the RAF "Six Wings" Orchestra at the Picture House, and a visit from Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal.

Aiming to cover the cost of ten Lancaster bombers and 75 Spitfires, Keighley surpassed the necessary £750,000 to raise £1,453.147.

A follow-up "Bomb Up the Bombers" campaign the following year raised £214.225, financing enough bombs for "almost" 18 raids by Keighley's Lancasters. This was "eight raids above the target of ten raids".
