THIS sad old building in Low Street, obviously awaiting demolition, will be remembered with affection by the older generation, for up to 1957 it was the Cosy Corner Picture House.
It had opened in 1912 in the former auction rooms of William Weatherhead, who is thought to have acquired the coat-of-arms above the entrance from Cliffe Hall at the time of its replacement by Cliffe Castle. It depicts the arms of the Netherwood family of Cliffe Hall, but Weatherhead had liked its motto: 'Frappe Fort' or 'Strike Hard'.
This is another photograph from Kevin Seaton’s collection.
