A REMINDER of the days when the Fell Lane buses ran round Church Green.
All these premises on the right were to be demolished in 1977.
On the far right we see the King’s Arms Inn, while businesses obscured by the bus included Henry Sawley, ophthalmic optician, tobacconists J Laycock and Son, and a Dickensian establishment known colloquially as “the old gold shop”.
The impressive building beyond, at the top of Low Street, houses the Midland Bank. Despite a number of alternative suggestions, the whole site was simply grassed over, opening up a view of Keighley Parish Church.
The photograph has been supplied by Mr Kevin Seaton, of Shann Lane, Keighley.
