THE date of this photograph is not known, but somebody at the time thought the snow in Wheathead Lane, Exley Head, was worth recording. It was taken in the earlier, rather than the later twentieth century, for there have been later modifications along the right-hand side, while houses have yet to be built on the left.

Holes in the wall-stones along the left were thought to be relics of the warp-dressing process in the days of handloom weaving. Indeed, Exley Head has its history. The last bull-baiting in Keighley parish is said to have taken place here in 1794, and there is a tradition that a market was held at Exley Head in 1645 during a plague in the town itself.

The photograph has been supplied by Kevin Seaton, of Shann Lane, Keighley.
