PRIOR to a Keighley borough boundary extension in 1938, Haworth was administered by an urban district council, whose members are seen here opening their electricity sub-station in Changegate on April 10, 1926.
This project had been delayed by the Great War.
The electricity was taken from the Keighley Corporation supply and transformed for use in Haworth, which then had about 100 customers.
The opening ceremony was performed by Thomas Duerden, chairman of the Haworth Council, who hoped that "the new source of power would enable the district to take its place among the industrial centres of the West Riding".
Mrs Duerden, seen here with the flowers, turned on the switch.
Everybody then adjourned to the Royal Oak Hotel, where the contractors treated them to food and drink.
