TP WATSON, headmaster of the Keighley Boys' Grammar School – formerly the Keighley Trade and Grammar School – sits, about 1920, in the middle of a scholars' gymnastic team in Union Jack jerseys and snake-buckle belts.
A native of Cowling, TP Watson had started his working life aged 13 in a mill, before becoming a pupil teacher and going on to take a first-class honours degree in mathematics at Edinburgh University, returning to Keighley as headmaster from 1903 to 1930.
A lover of Scotland, he was instrumental in setting up a school camp at Kirkcudbright from 1912.
On the far right stands Herbert E Hoyle, physical training instructor at the Boys Grammar School from 1905 to 1935. He was also a judge and referee for the Yorkshire Amateur Boxing Association, and trainer to the Keighley Rugby League Football Club.
