The Woodbine Day Nursery in Skipton Road was started in 1941, intended primarily to cater for the children of mothers on war work. It was equipped with beds and two baths, and cost five shillings per child per week.
Its importance was recognised in 1943 when the Princess Royal visited Keighley during Wings for Victory Week. Her itinerary included the Woodbine Day Nursery, where 47 children sat having tea in the garden, wearing sun-bonnets made specially for the occasion.
