OUR photograph of the former Victoria Park Wesleyan Methodist Chapel some weeks ago brought a response from Mr Syd Smith, now of Skipton, who “from being born” was a member of its congregation.
“My family, on the Jarman side, held all the major offices there,” he writes. “At the time of its demolition I was senior society steward, and my uncle, Tom Jarman, was chapel steward. In short, I was responsible for the people and my uncle, the fabric.”
He has supplied this photograph of the Victoria Park interior, showing the organ which in 1977 was bought by All Saints’ Church at Highfield. There organist Richard Horner spent 14 months of his spare time in its relocation and restoration.
