A MOUNTED policeman keeps the general public at a respectful distance as Keighley Borough aldermen, councillors, magistrates and their ladies make their way into the parish church.
This was on Coronation Day in 1902.
They had walked in procession from a special town council meeting, where the mayor had read a Loyal and Dutiful Address. Then, in the parish church bedecked with Union Flags and crimson roses, a service would mirror one at Westminster Abbey, with the rector declaring: "Sirs, I proclaim unto you Edward, the son of Her Majesty the late most gracious Queen Victoria, as our undoubted King".
In the background the Commercial Inn has put out flags and a motto: "God Save the King. Long may he reign".
