ALL that remains from this scene are the railings on the right, which run alongside Keighley Parish Church on the present car park side.

Older readers will remember this snicket leading from Church Green towards a left turn into the top end of Keighley's old market. On the left-hand side was the King's Arms Inn, demolished in 1966.

The King's Arms had been a coaching inn, complete with "barn, stable, and other outbuildings", and used to be the headquarters of the Keighley Rugby League Football Club. Before there were baths at Lawkholme, the players would change at the King's Arms before being taken to the field in a wagonette, returning for a bath after the game. The referee would travel separately by cab!

Mr Kevin Seaton, who supplied the photograph, recalls that the small wrapped-up vehicle just below the turning always seemed to be there, possibly to deter pedestrians from continuing down the back of the properties.
