ECCENTRIC music of a different kind was provided in Keighley during the Great War by this one-man band.

The notice on his drum reads: “I am an Italian subject and have lived in England 35 years, brought up a family of children, 3 of my sons are now serving under British flag. Proofs shown if necessary. A Dambros”.

Behind him, over the wall of the yard on his right, is draped a large rug – a reminder of the days when rugs were hung in this way to be soundly beaten, then left to freshen up in the outside air.
