THE staff of Keighley Public Library were photographed during the winter of 1947-48.

In the centre of the front row sits Fred Taylor, chief librarian from 1946 to 1974, a period of expansion during which the book stock doubled from 73,000 to 145,000.

Keighley Public Library used to be notable for its long-serving staff.

Second from the left sits Miss Miranda Heap, who served for 47 years and was chief assistant librarian from 1920 to 1952.

Seated at the far right is Miss Dorothy B Beckwith, who served for 45 years before retiring in 1966, and second from the right Miss Florence Whitwell, associated largely with the reference library from 1913 until 1959.

The two uniformed caretaker/attendants were John Narey and Rupert R Johnson, who served respectively for 26 and 34 years.
