Proposed security measures to tackle alleged racist and anti-social behaviour on a site in central Keighley have been thrown out by planners.
But Keighley Area Planning Panel, meeting yesterday, agreed steps should be taken to improve the plot - at Albert Yard, off Church Street.
The panel considered plans to fence off about half the yard and to install a gate at its Church Street entrance.
Local resident Rashid Ahmed claimed people piling out of pubs late at night were damaging property and urinating on doorsteps.
Planning officer Peter Timbrell said the proposals should be refused, as they would damage the appearance of the area.
Following a site visit, councillors agreed with his recommendation.
But they said action was needed to combat the problems.
