The Keighley and District Football Association celebrated its 100-year anniversary at a Steeton Hall dinner.

The event, held on the anniversary of the very first Keighley FA meeting on March 8, 1908, brought together 74 people including guests from the West Riding County FA and members of the four oldest clubs in Keighley, including Silsden AFC, Steeton AFC, Cross Hills FC and Oxenhope Recreation FC.

"It was one of the biggest nights in the history of the Keighley FA," said district president Jack Holmes. "And it was one of the highlights in my 22-year career as president."

Much of the history of the Keighley FA had been lost when many of the records were destroyed in a house fire of a past secretary.

Holmes said: "The fire destroyed most of the records 30 or 40 years ago. But I managed to rake up some information on the past presidents for the centenary dinner."

Although the Keighley & District League abandoned in the late 1950s or early 1960s because clubs wanted to play teams outside the area, the Keighley & Aire Valley Sunday Alliance League is still going strong.

The Keighley FA also has four cup competitions, the Challenge Cup, Supplementary Cup, Sunday Cup and Liam Daley Trophy. Many of the semi-finals games in those competitions were contested at the weekend.
